Hepatitis C Program

About

Hudson Headwaters’ Hepatitis C Program offers free and confidential rapid Hepatitis C (HCV) testing, connection to specialty care and focused care management services. The program supports people newly diagnosed or living with HCV.

What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a contagious infection that impacts the liver. It spreads primarily through contact with the blood of an infected person. The infection is curable with a daily antiviral medication taken for 8-12 weeks, but if left untreated, Hepatitis C can cause serious liver damage. Since many people with Hepatitis C are asymptomatic, the only way to know your status is to get tested.

Who is at Risk?

  • People who are active or past drug users
  • Individuals currently or formerly incarcerated
  • Baby Boomers (born between 1945 and 1965)
  • Homeless Persons or those at risk of becoming homeless
  • HIV+ individuals (approximately 21% of people with HIV in the United States also have HCV)

Screening Services

Hepatitis C screening is recommended for everyone 18 years of age and older, or more often if the patient is at high risk. Individuals who are pregnant should also be tested for HCV during each pregnancy. We offer free testing in our office space at West Mountain Specialty Care, at other Hudson Headwaters health centers and at community agencies, college campuses, health departments, county jails, outpatient rehab centers and community events.
