Medical Residency and Education Programs

Hudson Headwaters’ residency and education programs support our mission to provide high-quality care and access to that care by helping to train and recruit the next generation of providers to care for our communities into the future. Our providers and staff work with students by facilitating experiences essential to their clinical education while simultaneously serving as mentors to support their professional development.

Saratoga Hospital Family Medicine Residency

In collaboration with Albany Medical Center, Saratoga Hospital and Hudson Headwaters have developed the Saratoga Family Medicine Residency Program, an innovative residency designed for “physicians of the future.” The 3-year curriculum is built on the pillars of being community-focused, teaching innovative medicine and practicing integrated care. It maximizes broad-spectrum clinical competence in hospital and ambulatory medicine, with a special emphasis on training in behavioral health, addiction treatment, population health, rural health and state-of-the-art technology.

Pharmacy Students

Pharmacy student rotations are offered through Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Students in their final year of pharmacy school can complete advanced practice pharmacy experience (APPE) rotations in ambulatory care with Ryan Armstrong, PharmD, clinical pharmacist. Rotations focus on the pharmacist’s role on the extended care team and working directly with patients in the primary care setting.

Nursing Students

Through the SUNY Plattsburgh RN to BSN program and the WSWHE BOCES LPN Program, nursing students gain experience in the work environment through rotations here. The RN program is a 40-hour clinical rotation ending in a project based on their experiences. The LPN program pairs students with health center LPNs.

Other Student Opportunities

Advanced practice students can apply for precepted clinical time at Hudson Headwaters. Due to the demand for these rotations, there is a formal application process that prioritizes current employees, their families and local students.

Clinical Rotation Application

Those wishing to apply for a shadow or observation experience must be age 16 or older. There are a limited number of experiences available.
