Stay Covered: Recertify for Medicaid Now

Changes are coming to Medicaid in 2027. Starting on January 1, a new federal rule called Work Requirements for Medicaid Coverage will take effect. This means that some adults with Medicaid health insurance coverage will need to show that they work, volunteer, go to school or are enrolled in job training in order to apply for or renew their coverage. Hudson Headwaters recommends that you take action before the end of 2026 to prevent a gap in your coverage.

Renew Your Health Insurance Plan

Renew your health insurance plan before December 31, 2026, even if renewal is not required yet. Your insurance plan may be called Medicaid, Child Health Plus or the Essential Plan. New York State has resources on its website and enrollment assistors who can help. You can also call the Medicaid Helpline at 800-541-2831.

Apply for the Sliding Fee Program

You may be eligible for the Sliding Fee Program, even after you renew your Medicaid coverage, based solely on your household/family size and how much you earn. The program discounts the cost of medical and dental care at Hudson Headwaters health centers.

Update Your Contact Information

New York State/NY State of Health may send updates about your coverage via mail, email or text message. Log into your account at nystateofhealth.ny.gov or call 1-855-355-5777 to make sure they have your current contact information.

Verify Your Insurance Plan

Make sure you know which health insurance plan you have so you can follow the correct renewal instructions. Log in at nystateofhealth.ny.gov to confirm.
